You are never locked in to an attorney you've lost confidence in.
Your Right to Change Counsel
Oregon clients have the right to change attorneys at essentially any point. The transition is usually handled directly between the old and new firms, with your file transferred promptly.
How Fees Are Sorted Out
On a contingency case, switching generally does not increase your total fee. The former attorney may assert a lien for the value of work performed, which is typically resolved out of the single contingency fee at the end — not paid separately by you.
When Switching Makes Sense
Poor communication, lack of progress, or a mismatch in experience for your type of case are common, valid reasons. A consultation with a new firm can clarify whether a change is warranted.
